Club Day

The Student Association hosted a dinner for the college’s 13 clubs and their most active members on June 28 on the ground floor of Building 1, in recognition of student participation in activities over the past three trimesters.
Ajarn Anchalee Pongpun, Senior Advisor for Student Affairs, congratulated the attendees, after which the newly-elected leadership team of the Student Association was installed. Certificates of achievement were awarded, highlighted by the Volunteer Club’s award as Club of the Year.

Sports Events

The MUIC student Association hosted the 2nd Thailand International Badminton Championship on June 23-24 in the university gymnasium. MUIC Director Chariya Brockelman presided over the open ceremonies, after which the competition began among MUIC, Webster University Thailand, St. Theresa International College, Shinawatra University, Naresuan University International College and Siam University.
Medals were awarded for individual and team achievements. The MUIC team won the championship.
In mid-June, over a two-week period, the Sports Club organized the first King of the Elephant Gym Basketball Competition. MUIC, two teams from the MU Faculties of Information and Communication Technology and Sports Science, along with a team from the Salaya community, participated in the round-robin tournament. The Sports Science team were the final victors.

Art & Photo Exhibit
During the second trimester the Art and Photography Clubs separately engaged in their annual trips. As a follow up, the two clubs held a joint exhibition, featuring their best work, during the week of June 18-22 on the ground floor of Building 1.

The Student Association provided an afternoon of fun and social interaction for MUIC students. Teams, which were organized according to majors, engaged in a variety of parlor games and interactive activities, all of which was a welcome respite from the recent ordeal of mid-term examinations.

International Visitations

University of North Carolina
Six honor students from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) spent the second trimester at MUIC, taking a variety of elective courses, particularly in Southeast Asian Studies and the Thai language.
Once the trimester was over, the group spent two weeks in Kanchanaburi Province and were accompanied by four of MUIC’s Social Science majors. The UNC students gained first-hand experience of the Thai lifestyle by living with host families. They also attended a series of lectures by MUIC faculty members and had an opportunity to visit the more celebrated tourist sites in the province.
Stephen Austin State University
A contingent of students from Stephen Austin State University, Texas, arrived at MUIC on May 14 for a ten-day educational tour. They were introduced to Mahidol University and MUIC, visiting with faculty members and attending a lecture on Thai architecture and construction techniques.
The group visited the major tourist attractions in Bangkok, after which they traveled to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, where they witnessed development projects, went on elephant rides and visited major tourist sites. They then traveled to the south of Thailand to explore rebuilding efforts that have taken place since the 2004 tsunami disaster.

Graduation Banquet

The junior class hosted the 2007 Graduation Banquet on June 16 at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok. The evening’s festivities, with its theme of “Oscar Night,” were enjoyed by the 2007 graduates and invited guests.

Health Day

The MUIC Student Association, in collaboration with Siriraj Hospital, organized a “Health Day” on June 6. Throughout the day members of the MUIC community visited the Seminar Room in order to donate blood. There were also activities on the ground floor of Building 1, including foot massages, physical fitness examinations and cooking demonstrations of healthy foods by the Salaya Pavilion Hotel chefs.

A group of students from Monterrey High School, Mexico, arrived at MUIC in June for a two-week study program that focused on Buddhism and the Culture of Thailand. The group not only attended lectures by faculty members from the Social Science Division but also embarked on outings to Ayutthaya, Samutprakran and Ratchaburi Provinces, where they visited religious sites and other tourist attractions.

ASEAN University Network

Two MUIC students, both Social Science majors with a concentration in International Studies, attended the 9th ASEAN University Network Educational Forum and Young Speakers Contest in Vientiane, Laos, from May 13 to 23. The two events were sponsored by the University of Laos and attracted the participation of nine ASEAN countries.
Ms. Natanaree Posrithong delivered a paper at the Educational Forum and Ms. Bousakorn Bounchantuek participated in the Young Speakers Contest.

Talk Show

The Travel Industry Management Division sponsored a special Talk Show in the MUIC auditorium on June 7. The featured speaker was Mr. Patee Sarasin, Chief Executive Officer of Nok Air, who addressed the issue of “Brand Positioning.” All MUIC students were invited to attend the session.

Debate Champions

The Debate Club participated in the 7th Environmental Debate Championships at Chulalongkorn University during the first week of June to coincide with World Environment Day.
The MUIC team, Alisha Sachchathep, Bousakorn Bounchantuek, Jagruti Sampat and Phra Chainarong Sangsroni, won the championship. Over the past year the Debate Club secured the “triple crown” of national debates: the British Parliamentary National, the Europen-Thammasart Nationals and now the Environmental Debate.
